In the ongoing reinvention of the historic Parnell wool stores was the 2021 opening of ‘Faradays’, a new 550 square metre luxury retail emporium and inhouse bar within the Textile Centre. For its part in the transformation of what was formerly a set of truck bays, Haydn and Rollett began by digging out the bays, recompacting the fill and relaying floors with recycled native timber. The team created a sarked ceiling of recycled douglas fir, as well as large inter-tenancy wall,
built a toilet suite and installed new windows. As with previous work Haydn & Rollett has done at the Textile Centre, the major challenge was the historic building’s lack of square or level surfaces.
So the tenants could continue with their normal operations without disruption, all of the work at the Centre had to be performed at night. Despite this enduring task, the project team completed the project to a high standard of finish.
