In addition to the fitout, Haydn & Rollett handled the major joinery for PFI’s new head office in the historic Hayman Kronfeld building in Britomart. The big ticket item was the kitchenette, which includes charcoal-coloured Melteca cabinetry, black stone benchtops and a large and heavy white Formica kitchen island. The latter comprises two sections, completed by hand rather than with a CNC router to ensure an identical match. Installation was made challenging by the building’s uneven floor.
The team also created a long, high wall of storage down one side of the office space, finished by a subcontractor in polished plaster Ambitec. The showstopper is the architect-designed macrocarpa bar leaner, which the client had specified should be an eye catching piece. Set on heavy duty steel plate legs, the leaner was constructed from four sections of laminated macrocarpa, assembled in the workshop for checking, then transported and reassembled seamlessly on site.
