Haydn & Rollett is delivering the fourth stage of the Carlaw Park Student Village development at 22 Stanley Street in Parnell for Precinct Properties.

The new 12-storey student accommodation facility will provide 964 self-contained studio apartments for the University of Auckland. Each studio will include an individual kitchen and ensuite, supported by separately reticulated services. Shared common areas and a landscaped ground-floor courtyard will provide welcoming spaces for residents to meet, study and relax.

The building is founded on reinforced concrete piles, pile caps and ground beams. Its primary structure combines a structural steel frame with concrete shear walls, precast concrete flat slabs and reinforced concrete flooring. Internally, steel-stud framed and plasterboard-lined walls form the fire-rated and acoustically designed separations between apartments.

A carefully articulated façade combines precast concrete panels, vertical metal cladding, curtain walling and punched-window joinery. Changes in colour, material and depth break down the scale of the building, while the prominent glazed entrance establishes a clear presence on Stanley Street.

While architecturally complementing the adjoining stages, Stage 4 will operate independently to meet the University’s security requirements. Its shared common areas and central landscaped courtyard will create a distinct community environment for Stage 4 residents.

Now under construction, Stage 4 continues Haydn & Rollett’s long-standing involvement at Carlaw Park and will significantly increase the supply of purpose-built student accommodation close to the University’s city campus.
