This project near Auckland International Airport involved the construction of two 600m2 metre buildings for two rental car companies, complete with offices, internal workshops, fuel storage, EV charging and car wash areas, plus the formation of a large shared carpark.
On the face of it, it should have been a straightforward exercise. The buildings themselves are uncomplicated – a flat pan steel shell, aluminium joinery, gib internal walls. And a third party had indicated there was enough base quartz on site to comfortably form the carpark area.
As it happened, 2000 cubic metres of material eventually had to be imported and the contruction methodology for the civil works needed to be completely rejigged.
Similarly, the design of the buildings required a fair amount of problem solving by the project team, along with expert input from Haydn & Rollett’s inhouse design manager and architect.
Given those unanticipated challenges and additional work involved, the team did well to complete the project on time.
