In keeping with its role as part of the massive International Wholesaler Superstore development in Auckland’s west, the new petrol station at Westgate is a giant in New Zealand terms, with 26 pumps and a super-sized forecourt.
Despite the outsized scale, it was expected to be a relatively straightforward project for Haydn & Rollett – right up until the nature of the ground conditions was exposed.
The discovery of significant areas of unstable peat as well as number of deeply buried and very large tree trunks meant the piling operation had to wait until more extensive groundworks could be completed.
Once out of the ground, Haydn & Rollett drew on the expertise of fuel station gurus ECL and other specialist subcontractors for the installation. A fully compliant facility was delivered to the client on schedule in early 2022, and has been busy ever since.
